Turkey

Be thankful that turkey is a staple at many family gatherings this time of year! Turkey is an incredible protein source that is also low in fat. However, make sure to watch your portions size. A 3 ounce serving is about the size of a deck of cards or the size of the palm of your hand.

White meat is lower in fat and calories than dark meat and the skin. White meat without skin generally contains

  • 161 calories
  • 30 grams of protein
  • 4 grams of fat

Whereas dark meat with skin generally contains

  • 232 calories
  • 27 grams of protein
  • 13 g fat
  • If you want to eat the skin too, have a little bit/a few bites and leave the rest

• A fresh turkey will keep in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 days
• Frozen turkey may be stored in the freezer for up to 1 year. Begin thawing turkey up to 5 days in advance.
