Fareway Stores, Inc. has property under contract two blocks west of the intersection at Highway 169 and Highway 3, in order to construct a new store to replace the existing location at 710 First Avenue North. Fareway is working in coordination with the current property owner and local officials, with necessary documents being prepared to be presented at a public meeting in the near future.

Fareway intends to construct an approximately 19,000 square foot Fareway grocery store. When opened, the new store will provide increased options for consumers, while continuing to offer an unmatched, full-service meat department; farm-fresh produce; low, competitive prices and the highest level of customer service that area residents have come to expect from Fareway.

“In the coming weeks, we hope to begin the public process in order to construct a new Fareway store in Humboldt,” said Fareway President and Chief Operating Officer Frederick R. Greiner. “We have proudly served the Humboldt area since 1970, and are committed to providing for area residents for years to come. In comparison to the existing store, the new store will offer an expanded produce area, larger meat case and more product variety. Although this development will take time and additional details still need to be vetted, we are very excited about the potential of a new store.”

“We're glad to see Fareway's desire to reinvest in Humboldt and our residents,” said Travis Goedken, Humboldt City Administrator. “They've been a great member of the community and we look forward to a continued relationship with them into the future.”

“We are pleased with Fareway’s decision to construct a new store in Humboldt. Fareway has been a great corporate partner and we’re excited about the additional opportunity this will afford the residents of Humboldt County and the surrounding area,” said Director of Humboldt County Development Association Alissa O’Connor.

The existing Fareway store opened in 1970. Pending negotiations, the current site location will be sold.
