(JOHNSTON, IA) Employees with Fareway Stores, Inc. continued their annual tradition of teaming up with the Murphy Family Foundation to pack meals ahead of the Easter holiday.
Forty-eight total volunteers, split between two shifts packed 2,000 meal kits for a total weight of 12,000 lbs.
The 9:00 a.m. crew consisting of twenty-one Fareway team members and five representatives from the foundation completed 1,000 meals in sixty-six minutes. The 1:30 p.m. shift saw twenty-two volunteers pack 1,000 meals in the same amount of time.
Additionally, twelve Fareway volunteers spent seventy-five minutes packing sixty-nine cases of oatmeal packets for a total of 897 lbs. - a new Food Bank of Iowa record.
