Lower Fat Alfredo Sauce

This lower fat Alfredo sauce is made with simple modifications to help you enjoy decadent dining at home. This recipe makes four generous ¾ cup servings and is only $1.18 per serving. Use this sauce for pasta, lasagna or in your favorite dish that calls for Alfredo sauce. You can further reduce fat and calories by cutting down the cream cheese to 6 oz and using a "light" spread or margarine.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup heart health spread (such as Country Crock® spreadable butter with canola oil)
  • 8 oz fat-free cream cheese
  • 2 cup low-fat milk
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 oz grated parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 tsp dried basil
  • 1/4 tsp pepper

Directions

  1. Melt butter and garlic powder in sauce pan.

  2. Add cream cheese and stir until melted.

  3. Whisk in milk, parmesan cheese, pepper and basil.

  4. Remove from heat when sauce reaches desired consistency.

  5. Sauce will thicken when cooled.

  6. Thin with additional milk, if desired.
