Zach Lane began his Fareway career in 2008 in the Decorah store while completing his Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science at Luther College. During this time, he met his future wife, Megan, who was also working at Fareway and is a fellow Luther College graduate.
After graduating, Zach transferred to the Charles City store, working in the meat department. In 2012, he was selected to join the inaugural Retail Sales Team, bringing him to the corporate office. In this role, he visited nearly half of Fareway’s locations, developing strong relationships with corporate leadership and store teams while gaining a deep appreciation for Fareway’s history and culture.
In 2014, Zach transitioned into the IT department as part of the Retail Support Team, helping to install a new point-of-sale system. Over the following years, he built extensive expertise in retail hardware and software, ultimately being promoted to Director of Retail Systems in 2021.
He is an alumnus of both the Iowa Technology Leadership Institute and the IGIA Leadership Program. In 2025, he was honored as the Emerging Technology Leader of the Year by the Technology Association of Iowa.
Zach and his wife, Megan, reside near Ames, Iowa, where they enjoy biking, exploring state parks and trails with their dog, and spending time boating and traveling.
