We love cheering on all RAGBRAI riders as they ride across our great state. We wanted to give a special shout out to our friends at Adaptive Sport Iowa as they celebrate their fifth year riding.
Adaptive Sports Iowa (ASI) is an organization providing sports and recreation opportunities to athletes is physical disabilities. ASI offers events, ongoing programs and events year round including wheelchair basketball, power soccer, skiing, beep baseball and more.
Among the many opportunities ASI offers, they organize the only RAGBRAI team supporting cyclists with physical disabilities. ASI’s mission for this team is to make RAGBRAI accessible by eliminating many of the common barriers a cyclist with a disability may encounter on the ride.
2015 Team Stats:
- 36 registered cyclists with physical disabilities
- 44 support volunteers
- 41 from Iowa
- 39 from out of state (Italy, California, Vermont, Colorado, Ohio, Florida, Illinois, Missouri, Indiana, Louisiana, Minnesota, and New Mexico)
ASI is one of the most visible teams on the trail, so when you see them ride through your town, make sure to cheer them on!
