Des Moines area Fareway managers presented a check for $6,000 to Make-A-Wish® Iowa to fulfill a wish for a child with a life-threatening medical condition. The donation comes during Make-A-Wish Iowa’s largest fundraising event, Jolly Holiday Lights, which unexpectedly had to close this season due to flooding.

“Fareway has a long history of taking pride in our dedicated employees,” said Fareway Stores, Inc. CEO Reynolds W. Cramer. “Today, our Des Moines area store managers have gone above and beyond in providing for our community, at a time when it was needed most. We couldn’t be more proud of our local staff and their choice to donate to such a worthy organization as Make-A-Wish.”

Proceeds will turn a wish into reality for a kid in Iowa, making their wish come true and inspiring them to find the courage to comply with medical treatments. The average monetary cost of a wish in Iowa is $6,000.

“With the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the closure of the Jolly Holiday Lights display, this challenge doesn’t compare with the challenges wish families face on a day-to-day basis as they deal with children living with a life-threatening medical condition,” said Chris Voggesser, Make-A-Wish® Iowa President and CEO. “We are grateful for Fareway’s generous donation as these additional funds will help make granting a wish every other day in the state of Iowa a continued reality.”

Make-A-Wish® Iowa grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. The Foundation has granted wishes to more than 3,000 children with life-threatening medical conditions since 1987 and currently grants a wish every other day in Iowa.
