JOHNSTON, Iowa – Fareway Stores, Inc. is proud to announce that customers and employees across its seven-state region helped raise $52,998.83 for the ALS Association through a recent week-long Round Up at the Register campaign. The funds were presented to Josh Nuss, Regional Director for the ALS Association, following the successful initiative.

The campaign demonstrated the remarkable generosity of Fareway customers and the dedication of store teams who worked together to support individuals and families affected by ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

"This was an exceptionally strong result for a non-holiday, week-long campaign," said Elias Johnson, Vice President of Corporate Outreach & Communications for Fareway Stores, Inc. "The support shown by our customers and employees reflects the compassion of the communities we serve and the power of working together for an important cause."

The fundraising effort received an added boost from Fareway CEO Reynolds Cramer, whose Ice Bucket Challenge video inspired participation throughout Fareway's seven-state footprint. Store managers across the company joined the challenge, sharing creative videos on social media and helping generate awareness and enthusiasm for the campaign. Customers responded by supporting the cause through register roundups and additional donations.

"We're grateful to see Fareway bring real energy to this year's Round Up at the Register campaign in support of the ALS Association," said Josh Nuss, Regional Vice President for the ALS Association. "A special thanks to CEO Reynolds Cramer, who kicked things off with the Ice Bucket Challenge and sparked something special when managers across the company joined in. Thank you for bringing this genuine momentum and raising funds for ALS research, advocacy, and care services. We are grateful to every customer who rounded up or contributed extra at checkout. This is what a real partnership looks like. When companies step up, we make real progress for people living with ALS."

Fareway also recognized several employees for their outstanding fundraising efforts. The top three cashiers during the campaign were:

  • Sue Seebeck, Store 106 in Clive, who raised $1,031.21
  • Michael Sawyer, Store 155 in Huxley, who raised $724.70
  • Gloria Przybyszewski, Store 155 in Huxley, who raised $271.35

Seebeck became the only cashier to surpass the $1,000 milestone during the campaign, while Huxley Store 155 led all locations in total dollars raised with $1,417.52

For customer participation, Store 137 in Polk City once again topped the leaderboard with 33.99% of customers rounding up their purchases or making an additional donation. Other top-performing locations included Webster City, Denver, Granger, Council Bluffs, Pella, Story City, Spirit Lake, Davenport, and Huxley.

"Every donation, regardless of size, helps make a difference," Johnson said. "We are grateful to our customers, managers, cashiers and employees for making this campaign such a meaningful success."
