NEWS RELEASE (January 15, 2020) – Fareway yesterday held a ribbon cutting ceremony for a new replacement store located at 619 Burnett Avenue in Ames. Downtown Ames is home to the second-ever Fareway, and demolition of the second-generation existing structure will take place in February. The new 24,000 square foot Fareway provides for what customers have come to know and expect – only the best in fresh, highest quality meat; a full-service butcher counter; farm-fresh produce; low, competitive prices; and the highest level of customer service, including to-your-car carryout. However, this new store boasts a fresh look and feel, different than any other Fareway, with more natural lighting, updated interior, and an outdoor courtyard for foot-traffic.

“We look forward to continuing to serve the business district and surrounding residential area in downtown Ames,” said Fareway President and CEO Reynolds W. Cramer. “The new store aesthetics are fresh and unique; and it’s exciting that customers can now shop three different Fareway experiences just in Ames.”

"The City of Ames appreciates the investment by Fareway; providing our residents with an attractive shopping experience in downtown," said City of Ames Mayor John Haila.

“Today has been greatly anticipated, and we are extremely excited to officially open the new downtown Ames store,” said Ames Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Dan Culhane.

The new store will continue to be managed by Grocery Manager Gary Linahon and Market Manager Jeff Blum. The new store will open for normal business hours of 7 a.m. – 9 p.m. today. Fareway also has locations in North Ames at 3619 Stange Road and a Meat Market at 3720 Lincoln Way.
