(JOHNSTON, IA) — Fareway Stores, Inc. is excited to announce plans to redevelop its Fareway Meat & Grocery store located at 430 NW 2nd Ave. in Faribault, Minnesota, reinforcing the company's long-term commitment to serving the community and investing in downtown Faribault.
The redevelopment project will replace the existing store at its current location and include a modernized grocery store of approximately 25,000 square feet along with a 2,700-square foot Fareway Liquor store. Dean Snyder Construction has been selected as the general contractor for the project. Construction is anticipated to begin in January 2027, with the new store expected to open ahead of the 2027 Thanksgiving holiday season.
"As a family-owned company, Fareway is committed to investing in the communities we call home," said Reynolds W. Cramer, CEO of Fareway Stores, Inc. "This redevelopment represents our long-term commitment to downtown Faribault, and our desire to provide area residents with an unmatched shopping experience they've come to expect from Fareway. We greatly appreciate the support of local officials and area leaders to help get this project accomplished."
“For Fareway and the City to partner on the construction of a new Fareway Meat and Grocery store is exactly the kind of investment Faribault residents have been seeking,” said Mayor Tom Spooner. “We appreciate Fareway’s vision to build a new store, their interim plan to provide Faribault residents access to groceries through Fareway’s ecommerce platform during construction, and Fareway’s long-term commitment to Faribault residents with a ground up redevelopment. We couldn't be more excited to see this vision come to life.”
The new facility will feature updated and expanded amenities designed to better serve customers today and into the future. Current plans include backup generator capabilities and solar energy accommodations as part of the store's design. The Faribault Fareway will continue serving area residents without disruption through the 2026 holiday season.
Beginning in January 2027, to ensure uninterrupted service throughout construction of the new store, Fareway will offer online ordering and delivery services, allowing customers to continue shopping with Fareway while construction is underway. The temporary eCommerce location will be located near the current store. During construction, all current employees will be offered employment at another Fareway location. Upon opening, all current employees will be offered employment in the new store.
Fareway has proudly served the Faribault community since 2012 and looks forward to continuing its tradition of personalized service, high-quality fresh meat, farm-fresh produce, and everyday competitive prices in its new building. Fareway’s reinvestment in Faribault would not be possible without the City’s strong commitment and partnership.
The city process will begin this month. Additional project details and timelines will be shared online at: www.facebook.com/FarewayFaribault126
