We were proud to provide a donation of a truckload, containing 21,600 dozen eggs, to the Food Bank of Iowa in Des Moines Wednesday, June 8, 2016. The contribution was made in honor of Governor Branstad’s Iowa Egg Month, which took place in May. Iowa’s egg farmers lead the nation, caring for nearly 59 million laying hens that produce 16 billion eggs per year, according to the Iowa Egg Council.

“Fareway is proud to provide this donation to the Food Bank of Iowa in Des Moines,” said CEO Reynolds W. Cramer. “We are excited to partner in helping provide a nutritious food option to those in need.”

“We greatly appreciate Fareway’s generous donation of 24 pallets of eggs,” said Danny Akright, Food Bank of Iowa Communications Manager. “Eggs are often a difficult food item to secure, and they are a highly sought-after in a nutritious and economical diet.”

The Food Bank of Iowa is a private, not-for-profit organization striving to meet the critical food needs of a diverse population through a network of more than 375 partner agencies in 55 counties. These partner agencies include food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless and domestic violence shelters, child and adult care centers, and youth and senior programs.
