(JOHNSTON, IA) – In the midst of a successful football season, Iowa State Cyclones quarterback Rocco Becht wanted to do something to support families heading into Thanksgiving.
“During the season is an awesome time to do this because it gets us away for a bit and gives us perspective on life,” Becht said.
The sophomore offensive leader for the 22nd ranked Cyclones reached out to Brent Blum with the We Will Collective about giving back and were connected with Fareway, Johnston Partnership and the Food Bank of Iowa to secure 175 turkeys for area families.
“There are so many nice people in Iowa and I’ve been lucky to be up here around those who want to make their community better, so I’m happy to be here,” Becht said.
Becht, joined by teammates Jaylin Noel, Jayden Higgins, Beau Freyler and Abu Sama delivered turkeys to recipients as they drove through the Fareway corporate headquarters parking lot Thursday evening.
“Doing something like this during the season as the team gets ready to fly out tomorrow morning for their next game in Utah says a lot about Rocco’s character, and his teammates,” Fareway CEO Reynolds Cramer said. “We’re happy to partner with student athletes like these and provide any assistance we can as a group to allow them to give back."
