We want to give a huge thank you to our customers and employees for helping us raise over $145,000 for children and adults with muscular dystrophy, ALS, and related muscle-debilitating diseases. This is the highest donation amount raised through the Shamrock program during the history of the Fareway Stores and MDA partnership.
From February 16th through March 17th, our customers purchased an iconic MDA Shamrock pinup for $1, $5, or a larger contribution at checkout. The paper Shamrocks were signed by generous customers and prominently displayed in each store; symbolizing strength, independence, and life for MDA families in the community.
“Once again, Fareway retailers and their customers and employees have gone above and beyond to make a meaningful difference for people whose everyday freedoms - walking, talking, and even breathing - have been taken away by neuromuscular diseases,” said MDA of Iowa Executive Director, Erin Steffen. “It is because of their generosity that MDA is able to provide lifesaving research and support to help these individuals and their families live longer, grow stronger, and experience a world without limits.”
“We are so appreciative of the generosity of our customers and attribute the campaign’s success to their support,” said Fareway CEO, Reynolds Cramer. “Fareway is a long-standing partner of the Muscular Dystrophy Association and we’re proud to work together in the fight to find a cure for muscle diseases.”
Funds raised help provide life-enhancing programs such as state-of-the-art support groups and clinics, including the MDA Care Center at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. They also help send more than 70 local kids to “the best week of the year” at MDA Summer Camp at no cost to their families at Camp Courageous in Monticello, Iowa.
