Ingredients
- 3/4 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar + 1/4 cup for rolling
- 1 egg
- 1 Tbsp. water
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 2 1/4 cup flour
- 2 tsp. ground ginger
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 3/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
- 1/4 tsp. salt
These chewy molasses cookies are rich with deep, caramel-like sweetness and a hint of warm spice. Soft in the center with slightly crisp edges, they’re the perfect nostalgic treat for the holiday season.
Directions
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Cream butter and 1 cup of sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in egg, water and molasses. Stir in remaining ingredients.
Shape into 1-inch balls (about the size of a walnut) and roll in remaining sugar.
Place on an ungreased sheet pan and flatten slightly with a fork. Bake 8–10 minutes. Cool and store in an airtight container.
